Youth Mental Health First Aider

Youth Mental Health First Aid Training is designed for employers in the private, public, education and the armed forces sector and accredited by our Mental Health First Aid England (MHFA) trainer.

Youth Mental Health issues in our communities are on rise, reported by statistics and government reports. Attending this 2- day you will be able to support an individual by giving trained support and help needed. In doing so, they can speed up a young person’s recovery, stop issues from developing into a crisis, and ultimately save lives.

  • Do you know how to support a young person with mental health?
  • Can you recognise the signs or symptoms of a child with mental health?
  • Do you know how to encourage good mental wellbeing?
  • Do you know how to be a non-judgmental listener?
  • Are you a teacher, teaching Assistant, scout leaders, youth worker, carer, foster carer or a parent?
  • As a Youth Mental Health First Aider we will give you the tools and confidence to support a young person aged 8-18 years old.

Our Youth MHFA Two Day course qualifies you as a Youth Mental Health First Aider.

Youth Mental Health First Aiders have:

  • An in depth understanding of young people’s mental health and factors that affect wellbeing
  • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
  • Confidence to reassure and support a young person in distress
  • Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening
  • Knowledge to help a young person recover their health by guiding them to further support – whether that’s through self-help sites, their place of learning, the NHS, or a mix – engaging with parents, carers and external agencies where appropriate
  • Ability to support a young person with a long-term mental health issue or disability to thrive
  • Tools to look after your own mental wellbeing

We limit numbers to 16 people per course so that the instructor can keep people safe and supported while they learn.

Learning takes place across four manageable sessions. Through a mix of group activities, presentations and discussions, each session is built around a Youth Mental Health First Aid action plan.
