The Aims & Objectives of our SMSTS Courses

Do you run, manage or own a construction site? If so, you are probably looking for SMSTS courses. They are essential for anyone who has a management role on a construction site, from project directors down to supervisors and foremen. If you are looking for an SMSTS course, Liverpool construction companies will not find a better choice than the specialist services at Know-How Training Ltd.

What is an SMSTS course?

The initials in the name stand for ‘Site Management Safety Training Scheme’. It is designed to train individuals with site management responsibilities so that they are capable of fulfilling their responsibilities under health and safety law. Any construction site is naturally going to create health and safety hazards – from using power tools to the movement and operation of large plant and vehicles, it is easy to see why there are risks. Having competent and trained managers means that companies can ensure that they are taking the responsibility to manage and control these risks seriously.

Why is this important to have this training for managers on your construction site?

The obvious reason is that having this training will allow your foremen and site managers to reduce risks and make your site a safer place to work. This is an important advantage. However, it also means that you can use your available workforce to the best of their ability, including developing future managers from within your existing workforce.

What is involved in an SMSTS training course?

It takes five days, and it covers all relevant legislation for safe construction work. Participants will learn the theoretical knowledge of the law, as well as consider practical applications in the workplace. By the end of the course, participants should be able to return to your site, ready to put into practice all health and safety legislation that is relevant in their work, including welfare and environmental requirements. They should understand how to implement up to date guidance and best practices, as well as identify and fulfil their responsibilities concerning health, safety, welfare and the environment. The course is structured with four core exercises to train and assess the performance of each participant. The final assessment is based upon the completion of the four exercises, as well as a trainer review and an end of course paper.

Can you do an SMSTS course online?
