If you work within the construction industry and are a construction manager, agent, quantity surveyor, construction director or project director; then this course is designed for you. We have two focuses to deliver our course. The first is to ensure we help you lessen the risk of injury to your staff by providing them with the right tools. The second is ensuring you’re fully compliant to work.
You'll be able to develop ideas about how to define and implement the principles of health, safety and welfare.
You'll be able to create general responsibilities of managers, supervisors and operatives on sites, and to develop these into specific responsibilities for site conditions.
You'll be able to use your experience and planning skills to plan a construction site layout that will reduce health & safety risks.
You'll be able to use your knowledge and experience of construction sites by analysing and writing specific health and safety instructions for a construction operation on site.
At the end of your training you'll be assessed to show you know & understand construction based risks & mitigation strategies. You'll also undertake an examination of 25 questions.

The SMSTS Refresher is a 2-day training course designed for candidates who have already successfully completed the 5-day SMSTS Course and wish to renew their certification

As the Site Management Safety Training Scheme is a constantly developing course that updates and keeps students and qualified pupils abreast of any changes in Health and Safety Legislation and practice codes, it is important and a necessary aspect of the qualification to renew your knowledge and make sure you are up to date with current law, not just as an individual, but as an organisation.
Keeping up to date with the needed qualifications and current Health and Safety on-site training, provides the assurance needed for those under the site managers care, that they are fully equipped to spot and minimise risk, preventing potentially dangerous situations and hazards on the worksite.
The paper consists of 25 questions; 20 multiple choice questions and five short written questions. There are five safety critical questions in the exam paper that must be answered correctly in order to pass the exam. This exam paper must be taken at the end of the course. The exam pass mark is 80% (28 out of 35)
After completion a Site Management Safety Training Scheme certification by CITB is valid for five years

You can take the refresher course as long as your current accreditation has not ran out yet.

What happens if I fail my exam?
Should you achieve a 70-79% mark we will provide you with a free resit of the exam. Should your mark fall below this, you will have to resit the entire course.
Assessment will be by an end of course exam paper, the completion of four core exercises and a trainer review, for which the candidate will need to gain a PASS in all elements of the review. The exam demonstrates to external bodies that the certificate is only awarded to successful candidates following bothan assessment and exam. Candidates are expected to participate during the course.
