CAT and Generator Training Course

Provide awareness and competence training in the use of cable locators, this is one of the key steps to reducing cable strikes.

The CAT & Genny Operator Course (Essentials) is intended for those who operate, supervise or manage the use of Cable Avoidance Tools and Signal Generators in the workplace to avoid the dangers of underground services. There are no prerequisites for this course, although an understanding of underground services, utility plans and cable avoidance tools are an advantage.

Since the safe use of cable avoidance tools require that delegates consult safety notices and read and thoroughly understand the manufacturer’s instruction manual, English literacy and language comprehension are important requirements for any user.

Cable Avoidance and Service Location (CAT & Genny) training is designed for working on the roads, setting out before a build, surveying or excavating an area where pipes or cables may be hidden. This training course will provide you with safe use and operations.

On completion delegates will understand the reasons for using locators

– Simple ways to locate street lighting cables
– Location of bends
– Location of junctions
– Identification of utilities
– Service connections
– Locating through concrete reinforcing
– Depth measurement (where applicable)
– Using Sondes for non metallic pipes and practical work
– Hands on locating using receiver; transmitter and accessories.

This is a half day assessment combining both written and practical assessment of cable avoidance and underground services.

Upon successful completion of this course each delegate will receive a Certificate of Training, valid for 3 years.
