Qualitative fit testing is a pass/fail test method that uses your sense of taste or smell, or your reaction to an irritant in order to detect leakage into the respirator facepiece. To ensure that the selected RPE has the potential to provide adequate protection to wearer, they must undergo facepiece fit-testing. For RPE to be suitable it must be matched to the job, the environment, the anticipated airborne contaminant exposure level, and the wearer. Qualitative Face Fit testing is a method used for checking that a tight fitting mask matches the person’s facial features and seals adequately to the wearers face.
